There are No Naturals
Studio III Project // Fall Semester 2021
There is an overwhelming consumer desire for organic or ‘natural’ ingredients in cosmetic products. However, the truth is that there are no ‘naturals’ in cosmetic products that have not been synthetically altered to meet safety demands set by the FDA to reduce heavy metals and other contamination concerns.
This project, which was culminated in a 32 x 32 x 32 in cube display, compares pigments created from natural sources found on Belle Isle in Detroit and the inorganic synthetic pigments that are FDA approved to highlight the true ingredient makeup of color additives in cosmetics.
