Release

Zoox Sponsored Project // Winter 2022

In Collaboration with Soomin Ryou

Thunderstorms are intensely oppositional, but in their release, they recharge the planet.  Using the principle of approaching opposition head on, release encourages riders to share and debate controversial opinions with aims of building new perspective that revitalizes social relationships.

Experience

The release mobility experience connects participating users from different generations to each other through mobility pods that enhance communication methods through technology and face to face interaction.

The system comprises of an app interface, the vehicle and a biometric wearable. When registering, the users are able to choose their experience type, begin to input their preferences (both superficial and personal)  and track their past experiences captured by their wearable.

When paired up with another user, the experience follows the three stages of the thunderstorm where users are prompted with surface level questions in the cumulus stage, that then develop in intensity within the mature stage and eventually ease out through sharing a common interest. Throughout the experience, the wearable senses the user’s reactionary state to understand if the pod needs to pull back, calm the user down, or encourage more interaction.
